This holiday season many people are experiencing feelings of loss and isolation. For some, these feelings are grounded in not being able to spend Christmas with family and loved ones. Others are coping with the loss of a job. Still others are grieving the loss of a special person in their life.
When we read Henri's Daily Meditations, many of us are drawn to a single word or phrase that speaks to the heart of what we are experiencing in our daily lives.
For me, Henri's frequent reflections on "being present for others" remind me that a phone call, a note or an email, or the simple act of offering a listening ear, can have a powerful impact on the lives of those struggling with loss and loneliness.
I encourage you to be mindful of friends and neighbors who might be enduring these, or similar, hardships this Christmas season.
As a member of the Nouwen Society's small six-person board, I am deeply grateful for your partnership in our efforts to share Henri's words with others. Your support between now and December 31 is crucial for our work and outreach. On behalf of everyone at the Henri Nouwen Society, thank you!
