Dear Friends,
As a subscriber to Henri Nouwen's Daily Meditations, you will be interested to know about a very important, time-sensitive initiative that the Henri Nouwen Society is undertaking called the Oral History Project.
For us to complete this crucial undertaking, I am asking for your help. | | | Henri teaching at Harvard |
Before settling at L'Arche Daybreak, Henri Nouwen had been a hugely popular lecturer at Notre Dame, Yale and Harvard for nearly two decades. It was at these prestigious institutions that he helped shape the hearts and minds of hundreds of bright, spiritually-hungry students whose lives, in many cases, were forever changed because of their encounters with Henri Nouwen.
"The fruitfulness of our lives shows itself in its fullness only after we have died."
- Henri Nouwen
Scores of Henri's students and colleagues, as well as those who developed a relationship with him through correspondence, remained steadfast friends with him until his death.
A number of these individuals are still with us. And they each have illuminating stories to tell about Henri.
Over the past 15 years we have managed to record and transcribe over 100 interviews that make up the Oral History Project. These recordings provide a valuable resource for scholarship and education. They also speak eloquently about the influence and ongoing fruitfulness of the life of Henri Nouwen.
But the work is not finished.
We are about to enter the final phase of this project with the goal of capturing the remaining essential interviews. It is critical that we record these personal stories before these important voices are lost forever.
Your generous support will help with this important undertaking To this end, we are looking to raise $200,000, the amount required to complete this historic project in an efficient and timely manner.
Your donation will ensure Henri's life continues to bear fruit
I would like to ask you to prayerfully consider generously supporting the Oral History Project. These recorded remembrances speak deeply and wonderfully about the life and legacy of Henri Nouwen and will continue to influence lives for generations to come.
Of course, our other outreach initiatives need to be maintained and supported as well. Any funds received in excess required for this project will be allocated to the area of highest need.
Your gift will help ensure that the work of the Henri Nouwen Society resonates around the world. We are immensely grateful for your financial support.
Faithfully,
Karen Pascal Executive Director
