A Gentle Reminder

A REMINDER ABOUT OUR ORAL HISTORY PROJECT
Dear Friends,

As we continue our appeal for donations to fund the Oral History Project, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to all of you who have taken the time to respond to my previous post. I would also like to invite those of you who haven't had a chance to donate to do so now.

As I mentioned earlier, scores of Henri Nouwen's students and colleagues, as well as many who developed a relationship with him through letters, remained staunch friends with Henri until his death.

A number of these individuals are still with us. And they each have illuminating stories to tell about Henri, about his work, and about the impact Henri had on each of their lives.

We have already recorded and transcribed over 100 interviews that make up the Oral History Project. These recordings provide a valuable resource for scholarship and education. They also speak eloquently about the influence and ongoing fruitfulness of the life of Henri Nouwen.

We are about to enter the final phase of this project with the goal of capturing the remaining essential interviews. It is critical that we record these personal stories before these important voices are lost forever.

Your generous support will help with this important undertaking

To this end, we are looking to raise $200,000, the amount required to complete this historic project in an efficient and timely manner. At present, we are well below our target and urgently need your help.

Your donation will ensure Henri's life continues to bear fruit

If you haven't done so already, please consider supporting the Oral History Project. These recorded remembrances speak deeply and wonderfully about the life and legacy of Henri Nouwen and will continue to influence lives for generations to come.

Your gift will help ensure that the work of the Henri Nouwen Society resonates around the world. We are immensely grateful for your financial support.

Faithfully,

Karen Pascal

Daily Meditation: Eucharist, the Sacrament of Communion

DAILY MEDITATION

Eucharist, the Sacrament of Communion

Baptism opens the door to the Eucharist. The Eucharist is the sacrament through which Jesus enters into an intimate, permanent communion with us. It is the sacrament of the table. It is the sacrament of food and drink. It is the sacrament of daily nurture. While baptism is a once-in-a-lifetime event, the Eucharist can be a monthly, weekly, or even daily occurrence. Jesus gave us the Eucharist as a constant memory of his life and death. Not a memory that simply makes us think of him but a memory that makes us members of his body. That is why Jesus on the evening before he died took bread saying, "This is my Body," and took the cup saying, "This is my Blood." By eating the Body and drinking the Blood of Christ, we become one with him.

For further reflection...

You are those who have stood by me in my trials.  And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me, so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom... - Luke 22:28-30a (NIV)
Your response...

Christ lives in you. How will you experience that afresh today?
