Nouwen Meditation: You Are at Home While Still on the Way

Now & Then Podcast
In this week's episode of Henri Nouwen, Now & Then, Henri Nouwen concludes his powerful talk on how every Christian is called to become a peacemaker through prayer, non-violent resistance, and community. Recorded 40 years ago, Henri's challenge is perhaps timelier and more meaningful today than ever before.

You Are at Home While Still on the Way
When God has become our shepherd, our refuge, our fortress, then we can reach out to him in the midst of a broken world and feel at home while still on the way. When God dwells in us, we can enter into a wordless dialogue with him while still waiting on the day that he will lead us into the house where he has prepared a place for us (John 14:2). Then we can wait while we have already arrived and ask while we have already received. Then, indeed, we can comfort each other with the words of Paul (Philippians 4:6–7):

There is no need to worry; but if there is anything you need, pray for it, asking God for it with prayer and thanksgiving, and that peace of God, which is so much greater than we can understand, will guard your hearts and your thoughts, in Christ Jesus.
But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.”

PSALM 31:14 (NIV)
