The season of Advent helps us prepare to commemorate the arrival of peace on Earth through Jesus Christ. As Christmas approaches, our hearts are buoyed with the prospect of a world where peace reigns and good will is found among people everywhere.
Yet, the message of peace can be a difficult one on which to hang our hopes when disparity, violence and war are so normalized.
Through his writings, Henri Nouwen reminds us that God is indeed with us, and that God’s peace finds residence in our hearts – my heart, your heart, every heart that is open to receiving God’s divine Spirit.
Not many voices bring hope and encouragement to the precarious reality of our lives as does Henri Nouwen’s. It’s why he remains an essential resource to the countless numbers of people who struggle with fear and uncertainty in their daily lives.
