CREEDS: exercises not formulas Creeds, statements and their ilk seem to me to be great "exercises" but serve to infantilize us when they become formulas, models and methodologies. If only we could treat these kinds of human endeavors as rehearsals rather than perfect performance. Maybe then we could all become more comfortable with broad and deep theological conversation, doubt and human struggle. Proxies, whether hallowed doctrines or the individuals we ask to represent them, allow us all to stay infants.
